Ultrasonic Inspection: GearboxesIntroductionGear drives are used for transmitting mechanical motion and varying the direction, speed and torque of rotation of an input/output shaft system of a machine within the limits of available the power supply and the efficiency rate. A gearbox consists of a type of gear set, shafts and bearings, and relevant accessories such as a shifting mechanism, lubricating system, etc. The entire assembly is enclosed in a rigid casing referred to as the gearbox. The relative arrangement of shafts and tooth gears may be spatially constant (e.g. in spur gear reducer), movable (e.g. in planetary gear box), or combined inside the casing of a gear drive. Many of the costs and problems that result from defective and/or failed gearboxes can be prevented through ultrasonic testing with CTRL's ultrasonic sensors |
